Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has officially secured the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party for the 2027 senatorial election, receiving her Certificate of Return amid fanfare at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
The development formally confirms Akpoti-Uduaghan as the PDP’s candidate for the Kogi Central Senatorial District, setting the stage for what is expected to be another fiercely contested political battle in the state.
Speaking shortly after receiving the certificate on Wednesday, the senator described the moment as a renewed call to service, pledging to justify the confidence reposed in her by party members and supporters.
“This Certificate of Return is not just a document; it is a symbol of the trust and confidence that our party members and the people have placed in me. I accept it with humility, gratitude and a renewed commitment to serve,” she said.
The lawmaker reaffirmed her commitment to effective representation, good governance and policies aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerians, insisting that the PDP remains a platform of hope for millions of citizens.
She also called for unity within the opposition party and urged members to remain focused on delivering people-centred leadership.
“Our responsibility as leaders and candidates is to inspire confidence through service, integrity and a genuine commitment to improving the lives of our people,” she stated.
Akpoti-Uduaghan further advocated issue-based campaigns and deeper grassroots engagement, stressing that Nigerians are demanding leaders who will prioritise development, justice, accountability and economic opportunities.
With her candidacy now officially sealed, the senator is expected to intensify consultations across Kogi Central as she seeks to consolidate support ahead of the 2027 polls.
A lawyer and activist-turned-politician, Akpoti-Uduaghan rose to national prominence through her advocacy for transparency and accountability and has remained one of the most influential political figures in Kogi State.
Her emergence as the PDP candidate is expected to ignite another high-stakes contest for the Kogi Central Senate seat, one of the state’s most politically significant constituencies.
