The All Progressives Congress (APC), Yobe State Chapter, has resolved to adopt consensus as the mode of election to produce its candidates for the governorship, National Assembly, and State Assembly seats in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on the outcome of a critical stakeholders’ meeting in Damaturu, Senator Ahmed Lawan briefed journalists, stating that out of the two modes specified in the Electoral Act, consensus and direct primaries, the party in Yobe State has chosen consensus, citing past success.
“From our previous experience, consensus has always worked for us in this state,” the party said in a resolution passed during the meeting.
“Any candidate that emerges for any position will receive the support of all party members, including those who might have wished they were the ones picked.”
The party noted that it has various avenues for reaching out to unsuccessful aspirants, adding, “This is not something new for us to do.”
The Yobe APC also formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term, pledging to deliver 3.5 million votes to him in the 2027 presidential election.
“We are very mindful of the performance of this administration, the various interventions and reforms introduced by the federal government, which have started yielding very positive results,” the party said.
All Yobe APC candidates for governor, National Assembly, and State Assembly are expected, by the grace of God, to receive higher votes than they did in the 2023 general elections.
The party attributed its confidence to internal unity, describing Yobe as a political family. National Assembly members from the state have worked closely and harmoniously with the state government under the APC, especially during the Gaidam era and the current administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni.
“As a small state, we have produced election results that compare favorably against results from even bigger states. That is because of our unity, the understanding we have shown for each other, and the love we have for each other,” he stated.
Leaders, elders, stakeholders, and members will continue to support one another and deliver results that compete favorably, achieving the highest percentage performance in Nigeria.
In return for this support, the party promised to practice good governance in Yobe State.
