The Nigeria Immigration Service, Benue office yesterday arrested over 251 illegal immigrants in Makurdi the state capital.
The state Controller, Thomas Bagobiri, who paraded the suspects in Makurdi, stated that the service was determined and will not rest on its oars in flushing out all illegal immigrants in the state.
He said, “We are aware of the insecurity in the country and the state.
We would not allow foreigners to disturb the peace and unity of our dear citizens. After serious investigation, we embarked on the operation around 3:00am yesterday and 251 of them were arrested. We are going to interrogate them to establish their nationality status and whether they are foreigners
and if they have resident permit.”
Bagobiri said one of his officers was shot at Wadata area while trying to arrest the suspects, and that he is in serious condition. He said after the investigation, those found wanting would be deported to their respective countries.
