At least, 5 persons were said to have been killed yesterday in Mkar, Gboko local government area of Benue State when a Salon taxi lost control and rammed into a roadside market.
The incident happened at about 7pm in front of Temperance hotel, Akaajime.
An eyewitness told our correspondent that, the taxi was coming from Gboko town to Mkar when it failed brake, adding that 11 others were badly injured and taken to private hospitals in the town.
He regretted that despite repeated tragedies, federal, state and local governments have done little to relocate markets which is close to a busy highway.
It was gathered that thousands of residents of Gboko trooped to the hospitals to check for their loved ones.
When contacted on the incident, Police Public Relations’Officer SP Catherine Anene said only two (2) deaths were recorded.
