5,000 Kaduna residents train in alternative dispute resolution

5,000 Kaduna residents have been trained and retrained in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) by the Nigerian Legal Aid Council, in collaboration with the World Bank and Japanese Social Development Bank.

The Director General of the Legal Aid Council, Mrs. Joy Bob-Manuel disclosed this during an interactive forum with the media in Kaduna yesterday.

Mrs. Bob-Manuel said the training was necessary in order to arm existing dispute resolution institutions such as district head, village and religious heads, with modern day mediation especially in civil matters.

According to hear, it is not all matters that should be reported to the police and that is why Nigerian Legal Aid Council, is enlightening Nigeria that they can solve their problems not only at the police stations.

The training, which is under the umbrella of ‘Access to Justice for the Poor in Kaduna state’ is being funded by the Japanese Social Development Bank and facilitated by the World Bank.
