Niger State Ministry of Basic Education has disclosed that 8 integrated Almajiri schools is to begin operations in the three senatorial zones of the state by January 2015.
The Ministry said the schools which will have a total intake of 400 students will be sited in Pago near Minna, Oduoye quarters in the state capital Suleja, Mokwa, Gulbin-boka, Kontagora and 2 in Bida town of the state.
The Commissioner for Basic Education Alhaji Danladi Abdulhamid who disclosed this to newsmen at the end of the State Executive Council meeting, said the Special Committee set up by the government and headed by the Emir of Suleja Malam Mohammed Awwal Ibrahim, recommended the location of the schools to the government.
Abdulhamid who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry Alhaji Shuaibu Bako, said the state government has released N20m out of the N30m approved for the takeoff of the schools.
He said the National Council on Education has commended the Niger state government for accessing funds from the Universal Basic Education Matching funds for the development of primary schools in the state. According to Abdulhamid, the funds accessed and the grants from the state government was responsible for the facelift primary schools in the state witnessed.
