Director, Department of Engineering Services, Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Shehu Hadi Ahmed has assured motorists that the ongoing reconstruction work on the high profile Bill Clinton Drive, will only last for seven months.
The director who also revealed that expansion of the road shoulders on the inbound lane would take just six weeks to complete.
Our correspondent reports that recently motorists traversing the road which connects the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja and the Umaru Musa Year Adua Expressway have been controlled traffic hitches due to partial closure of the place, to pave way for seamless works there.
It could be recalled that contract for the N1.7 billion project was awarded to CCECC, a Chinese construction firm, in March, 2018, by the Federal Executive Council (FEC), actual construction works had already commenced on the road.
According to the Director, the expansion would make it possible for the inbound to accommodate double lanes because traffic on the outbound lane would be channeled to the expanded inbound.
He explained that the inbound of the road is the lane leading into the Airport from the newly completed Interchange on the 10-lane Umaru Musa Yar ‘Adua expressway, while the outbound is the one coming from the Airport to the Interchange.
He added that the outbound would be closed for rehabilitation as soon as work on the inbound shoulders is finished, and this would take a month and two weeks.
Engr. Ahmed while calling on motorists and other road users to cooperate with the contractor handling the reconstruction work and officials of the FCDA, assured that the officials were always on ground to provide assistance to road users whenever the need arises.
He added that a regular u-turn has been introduced to ease movement, in addition to signages which are erected along the road, including speed breakers, warning lights, live and dummy flagmen to ensure minimum inconvenience throughout the reconstruction period.
