Delta pays N4.3bn workers’ arrears

Delta State government has said that the sum of N4.3billion was paid as workers’ arrears’ settlement between 2015/2019.
It said that the state Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has graciously approved the implementation of the minimum wage earlier signed into law by the Federal Government.
The state Head of Service ( HOS) Mr Reginald Bayoko who spoke to journalists in Asaba at a media conference held on Tuesday, disclosed that has established two bureaux for the administration of Contributing Pensions Scheme (.CPS) for each public service as the old pension scheme covers all retirees on or before 1st March, 2010, and Permeant Secretaries/Judges as well as other officers on Consolidated Salaries totaling 9, 275, adding that the approved increase had been fully implemented to all pensioners in the state.
He said,” the approval which affected 8, 652 pensioners resulted in additional monthly increase of N51.2million to the existing monthly pension of N365.48miilion under the scheme,thus at present, the monthly pension under the scheme is N416.7million , while the CPS are 18 pension fund administrators as Government has paid the sum of N31billion to settle outstanding retirement benefits,out of this amount, the present administration has between 2015 to date paid a total of N21billion with a total of 3,806 retirees paid their retirement benefits, while 3,000retirees are still outstanding.”
On biometric, the Head of Service said that the state had uncovered 273 ghost workers adding that in a bid to sanitize the payroll system, the State Executive Council on 13th July,2014 awarded contract for the implementation of the Biometric Identification, Payroll Automation, Time and Attendance System ( BIPATAS) project to Messer Heckebella Limited.
