Pneumonia: Save the Children to embark on public enlightenment

The non-governmental organisation (Save the Children) said, it has concluded all arrangement to embark on a public enlightenment on the preventive measures against pneumonia diseases in Jigawa State.
This was announced by the State Program Manager of save the children Abdullahi Magama while speaking during the a visit paid by the Jigawa Collation for Nutrition said, his team will work in collaboration with state government communities and other civil organisations to tackle the challenges.
The program manager revealed that Save children interventions will focus on public enlightenment on the sign of the disease, precaution and how to sake medical treatment.
He also added that, training and retraining of partners and medical workers on the pneumonia cases will also be part of their intervention.
“We want champion fight against the disease now in Jigawa , we will work with all relevant stakeholders including policy makers traditional institutions, religious and community leaders for achieving the desire goals, saving that lives of our children from unnecessary death” Magama said.
The decision followed is “ Inspiring Situation Analysis Report” published by international donor organisation “Save the Children” That said, no fewer than 14,988 cases of pneumonia cases recorded in Jigawa state annually, and identified as one of the major child killer disease in the state.
According to the report , even though there is no available data statistics on the number of child died as a result of pneumonia but it proves that, less than 31.4% of caregivers in the state knows the sign of the disease.
The report added that due to the high level of ignorance on the sign of the disease among the caregivers, lack of any champions against the disease and nonexistence of state policy to fight it increase its scourge.
