Bishop laments increasing rate of piracy, others in N/Delta

The Catholic Bishop of Bomadi Doicese, Bishop Hyacinth Egbebo has raised the concern over the increasing pirate and criminal activities in Niger Delta region, saying that unless steps are taken to ensure total eradication, there are likely to be more trouble in the region.
While calling for frontal attacks by government and security agencies before it generates into fierce threat, Bishop Egbebo who spoke to journalists in Asaba on Monday, said no efforts should be spared in curbing the renewed form of piracy in the region.
He described political killings, kidnapping, assassination and other violent crimes as the plague affecting the political landscape of the Niger Delta.
He therefore called for renewal of hearts to change the negative trend as development cannot thrive in an atmosphere of violence.
He urged the federal and state governments to provide job opportunities through education or skills acquisition for teeming youths and attributed the upsurge of piracy, kidnappings and other criminal activities to unemployment but commended the senator representing Delta South Senatorial District, Senator James Manager for his developmental efforts in the Niger Delta region, saying that his handwriting of practical development was evident in various Communities in the creek and town.
