A motion seeking to stop the Presidential special Committee from playing a part in the fresh recruitment exercise into the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) yesterday suffered another setback in the House of representatives.
The motion sponsored by Rep. Ahmed Idris (APC Plateau), titled “urgent need for the executive arm of government to reconsider the constitution of the special committee and allow the appropriate authority to carry out its constitutional responsibility,” was yesterday stood down for another legislative day.
Recall that the motion was brought before the House on Tuesday, 25th March, 2014 and was stood down following a point of order raised by Rep. Osai Nicolas Osai (PDP Delta), who argued that the House should not take the motion on the ground that a similar motion had already been debated and ruled upon with a resolution taken to conduct investigative hearing on the sad incident of Saturday 15th of March, 2014.
Speaker Aminu Waziri Tambuwal in seeking guidance invited the Chairman, House Committee on Rules and Business, Rep Albert Sam-Tsokwa to look into his records and report back to the House in the next legislative day.
The motion which was put on notice before the House yesterday was raised following an explanation by Rep. Sam-Tsokwa, saying that the motion so cited by Nicolas was on a different subject matter which had nothing to do with the powers of the President to set up a Committee to conduct recruitment.
