The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday organised a roadshow to sensitise residents of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, on its Continuous Voter Registration scheduled to commence on June 28.
The roadshow took the team to major parts of the FCT.
The Deputy Director, Voter Education Division, INEC headquarters, Mrs Mary Nkem, who spoke with reporters during the roadshow, assured that the commission was fully ready for the resumption of the continuous voter’s registration exercise on Monday.
Mrs Nkem explained that the roadshow was to sensitise and mobilise eligible voters in the FCT for the exercise.
According to her, “It is also to let them know those who are being targeted in the exercise. Those who have turned 18 after the last registration exercise, or those who are more than 18 years but have never registered.
“This exercise is also for those who have issues with their accreditation during the past elections, those have issues with their Permanent Voter Cards or their biometric details,” she said.
Nkem stressed further that the exercise taking place from 9 am to 3pm from Monday to Friday, excluding weekends, would have two processes, that is online pre-registration and physical registration.
Her words, “So, people can sit in the comfort of their homes and log in details for registration.
“They will then go to any of our local government or state office to capture their biometrics and photographs; or they eill appear physically at any designated register”, she further explained.
The Deputy Director in charge of Voter Education said that the commission would come up with the guidelines for the collection of PVCs.
The roadshow was used to sensitise FCT residents in different languages including English, broken English, Hausa, Ibo and Yoruba.
Fliers containing the details information on process, time and date for the exercise were also distributed to residents.
The roadshow which kicked off from INEC Headquarters went to Federal Secretariat, Asokoro, AYA Roundabout, Garki Market, Area 11, Wuse Market and Utako Market.
Among those who partook in the road show were; INEC staff members from the voter education and Publicity department, members of the National Youth Service Corps and media practitioners.
