Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno state yesterday mourned the death of the State’s Chief Imam, lmam Ibrahim Ahmad who died after a protracted illness at over 90 years of age.
A statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Isa Gusau described the late Chief Imam as one of the very strong pillars of Borno whose demise will be eternally missed especially at a moment like this when the State is facing challenges that require the prayers and leadership guidance of great men like the late Chief Imam.
Governor Shettima said the late Imam Ahmad who led Muslim worshipers in congregational prayers for over 50 years was a rallying point who helped in uniting Borno people through his spiritual guidance and mediation on religious matters.
Governor Shettima said the late Chief Imam was a man of integrity, an epitome of greatness and one who devoted his life to offering prayers for many years of peace in Borno State. Governor Shettima described his death as a huge loss not only to Borno State but to the entire Northern Nigeria and the nation.
He used the opportunity to urge residents offering prayers for the repose of the Chief Imam’s soul to include prayers for the safe return of schoolgirls abducted at Government Girls Secondary School,Chibok and for the return of peace in Borno and the entire Nigeria.
In a related development, the Minister of State for Power ,Hon Mohammed Wakil has described the late Chief Imam of Borno state, Sheikh Ibrahim Ahmad (RTA) as a great scholar and devoted Muslim.
In a statement he personally signed,the minister said the exit of the imam at this critical point in the life of the state is painful but expressed gratitude to Allah for a life well spent in the service of humanity and God.
“The best way to immortalise the late Imam is to continue to pray and work collectively to restore peace to our state. We submit to the will of Almighty Allah”, the minister said.
The late Chief Imam left behind over 100 children and dozens of grand children.
