The South East leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected the position of Deputy National Chairman purported to have been zoned to the region.
In a meeting well attended by APC leadership and major stakeholders convened at the Imo Governor’s lodge Abuja, were the Imo Governor Hope Uzodimma, his counterpart from Ebonyi state H.E Dave Umayi former Senate President Ken Nnamani who is a member of CECPC, the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonaya Onu, Minister of Labour& Productivity, Dr Chris Ngige, Minister of State Education, Hon Chukwuemeka Nwajuba, Hon Minister of State Mines Dr. Uche Ogar.
Others are Sen. Orji U Kalu, Sen. Frank Ibezim, Sen. Osita Izunaso, Rt. Hon Nkeiru Onyejiocha Dep. Chief whip House of Reps, Amb Jerry Ugokire, Chief Gbazuagu N. Gbazuagu, Hon Nze Duru, Hon Mariam Onuoha, Hon Austin Chuwukere etc unanimously rose in support of the position of National Secretary and vehemently rejected the position of Deputy National Chairman.
They cautioned the leadership of the party from taking away the slot of the National Secretary from the South East Region.
The leadership describes as an injustice, any move to allot the office to the Deputy National Chairman to the region (South East) base on individual interest against the entire region.
These form parts of communique issued at the end of the meeting which was released to pressmen in Abuja.
The south east leaders said that since the party recently adopted that all offices previously held by officers from the two major zones of the country should alternate, the case of the South East should not be an exception for the interest of justice and equity.
