Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has pledged to renovate an indoor sports hall of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano Council.
Ganduje made the pledge at the launch of 2022 almanac of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kano State Chapter on Thursday.
Represented by Kano State Commissioner of Information, Muhammad Garba, Ganduje said the sports facility, named Dominic Oneya Sports Hall, was in a situation that needs urgent attention.
He added that as part of his administration’s resolve to develop sports and youths in the state, he would soon renovate the facility which he built when he was a Commissioner of Sports.
“If you look at this indoor sports hall here at the Press Centre, you will see that it is in a deplorable situation.
“The Kano state government will ensure that it is renovated and put to shape.
“Initially it was His Excellency Governor Abdullahi Ganduje that built the indoor sports hall when he was the commissioner for works under the Kwankwaso administration while I was the NUJ chairman chairman.
“Looking at the condition of the hall, I assured the NUJ that the state government is going to renovate it back to standard,” the Commissioner stated.
Earlier in his remarks, Chairman of SWAN in the state, Zahraddin Saleh said the almanac launch is an annual event, aimed at promoting the activities of the association and development of sports in the state.
According to him, the even was inaugurated by past executives of the association, that is why when he came on board, decided to continue from where his predecessors stopped.
Saleh said he would be up and doing to use his association towards promoting sports activities in Kano, that would be of great impact in the country at large.
