265 experts drive Edo free medical outreach, 4000 patients to benefit

In a sheer commitment to give back to their homeland, 65 medical professionals from America with 200 clinical and non clinical volunteers from health institutions in Edo State are set to render free medical treatment to residents of the State.

The initiative by the First Lady of the State, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki on behalf of the State government, is in partnership with Association of Nigerian Physicians in America (ANPA).

Prof. Obehi Akoria, the State Commissioner for Health said a total of 4000 patients had been screened across designated Centres in the State, ahead of the exercise scheduled to begin on April 25, 2022.

She revealed that 300 of those screened had been scheduled for surgeries out of 600 persons who require surgeries which would be carried out in 13 Theatres across University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Edo Specialist Hospital (ESH), Stella Obasanjo Hospital and Irrua Specialist Hospital (ISTH).

Akoria, Chairman Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the mission also revealed that patients with other medical needs outside surgeries would receive medical attention at Edo State Hospital Management Board, King Square, Oredo and Ugbor Primary Healthcare Centres, adding that 3000 eye glasses would be given out to during the two weeks free medical mission in which the Government will provide technological support.

In a remark, the First Lady of Edo State, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki said the free medical intervention, was borne out of the need to reciprocate the kind gesture and support Edo residents gave to Governor Godwin Obaseki during the 2020 governorship election.
