No fewer than 235 women suffering from Obstetric Festula have been treated using surgical procedures by the Medicines SANs Frontiers at Jahun general hospital Jigawa state, from January to December 2022.
The team Medicines SANs Frontiers (Doctors without boarders) also provided 33,917 women with anti-natal care, assisted 12,519 deliveries while 282 women had their Festula repaired in 2021 in Jahun Jigawa state, Nigeria.
Speaking at the patients discharge ceremony, the MSF field coordinator in Jahun Jigawa state, Jean Clement Ishimwe said, out of the total number of patients, about 100 women who suffered from Obstetric Festula and successfully completed their surgical treatment will return home after the celebration.
“The ceremony is also an opportunity to promote the socio-economic integration of these women who have often been pushed aside. We give them spaghetti-making machines and flour to enable them to start a small businesses at home as a self reliant activity”, he said.
