Kano state Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Usaini Gumel has vowed to track and arrest the remaining two wanted notorious thugs at large in the state.
PEOPLES DAILY recalls that the Kano Police boss, at Sani Abacha stadium, during the opening ceremony of a three-day peace football match between the CP Boys versus City Boys, the team of the repentant thugs said anyone or group of persons who give useful information that will lead to the arrest of three wanted hoodlums will receive the bounty.
CP Gumel placed a bounty of N100, 000 on each of the wanted thugs.
He gave their names as Abba Burakita of Dorayi Quarters; Cile Maidoki of Tudun Fulani area; and Hantar Daba of Kwanar Diso quarters, all in the Kano metropolis.
However, few days later, Cile Maidoki submitted himself to the CP and promised to embrace peace, but the remaining two ran away.
Speaking while he paid an unprecedented visit to Kano Correspondents Chapel ahead of his 100 days celebration as CP on Monday, Gumel said the command had information that the remaining two thugs had fled the state.
According to him, the command would not rest on its ores until it get the thugs arrested and paraded before the public.
“We heard that the remaining two had ran away. We will track them. Even if they leave the country, we will follow them up, even if it involve using interpol,” he said.
The CP, in his speech said over 1,000 suspects had been arrested and investigated, adding that most of them are behind detained and would be prosecuted soon on offences ranging from armed robbery, kidnapping, cattle rustling, culpable homicide, thuggery, having deadly weapons, drugs trafficking, sales and consumption of dried leaves suspected Indian hemp and alike.
“Also, in line with the implementation of the vision and directive of the Acting Inspector-General of Police, the police command is employing effective policing strategies robust for tackling all forms of insecurity including both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches in the form of constant raids of criminal hideouts and black spots and collaborative policing where we invited some identified individuals behind the escalation of thuggery activities, social vices and other violent crimes in the State.
“As a result of the employment of these initiatives, a total of one hundred (100) repentant violent criminals and notorious thugs (Yan Daba) have surrendered themselves including their weapons to the Police Command and information reaching us is that the unrepentant ones are trooping out of the State to escape the heat of smoking them out of their comfort zones.
“Currently, the repentant ones are working with the Police for the promotion of sustainable peace, economic growth and development in the State.”
