A federal high court sitting in Kano has declared that the Kano Emirates Council (Repeal) Law 2024, which dissolved all the five emirates in the state and reinstated emir Muhammadu Sanusi ll remains a law but all actions taken by the governor towards the execution of the law is voided.
Giving a ruling on Thursday, Justice Abdullahi Liman held that although Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf was not formally served the order when he reinstated Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, but he (the governor) admitted that he was aware of his order.
Justice Liman said it was wrong for the governor to ignore information on the order shared on social media.
“The Defendants are aware even though it’s true that they were not served. They were aware of the order via social media. It’s wrong to disregard social media as a mean of dissemination of information.
“The court will not hesitate to set aside the act done in disobedience of the order of court. They chose the line of whims and caprices and it has landed them in trouble.
He therefore transferred the matter to his federal high court colleague, Justice Simon Amobeda, to continue with the case.
