The Director, Kwara state Command of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mr. Tanimu Alkali Adalkhali has suggested that a strong and committed leadership is a crucial factor in the effort to curtail the menace of cultism in higher institutions of learning in the Nigeria.
The Director, Adalkhali, stated this penultimate Monday, when he visited the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali in his office.
Adalkhali explained that with good leadership, cultism would be brought to “zero or minimal level” in the institutions, pointing out that “leadership affects what happens in the universities.
The Director noted that the University of Ilorin has demonstrated that with effective leadership, the social menace could be curtailed, saying, “This is why Unilorin remains the number one university in the country”.
He said that the DSS is not just interested in security matters but good governance as well, stressing that the Department had been instrumental to the reduction of cultism and promotion of peace on campuses.
The DSS Director commended the University of Ilorin on its stable academic calendar, noting that “this is the only University in the country where parents could plan and budget for their children’s education without the fear of their children overstaying their courses of study.”
In his response, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdulganiyu Ambali expressed his joy at having the Director on the campus, maintaining that the security outfit has lived up to expectation.
