The Federal Government has called on the private sector to partner in the war against the prevalence of malaria in the country.
At a presentation, wednesday, Senior Official, National Malaria Elimination Programme, Federal Ministry of Health, Dr Nnenna Ezeigwe, revealed that it will take the sum of N112 billion to engage in programmes that will be geared towards the eradication of malaria, come 2017.
In her words: “We have now taken account of the funding and the resources we have at the moment, resources from government and our partners and then the gap is what we have projected cumulatively and this gives us about $700m.”
She requested that the private sector help with establishment of malaria centers, diagnostics tests and setting up of firms for the local production of insecticide nets, as it was noticed that funds at hand will not be enough to obtain the listed needs.
She added that, “Based on our strategic plan, we have intervention areas, such as the rapid diagnostics tests, program management, and communications.”
However, the Head of Development Banking at Access Bank Plc, Mr Oluwatoyin Idowu, said that the bank and other stakeholders are always ready to partner with the federal government in financing such programmes that will promote the well-being of the citizenry.
