From Gambo Ahmed, Lafia

The people living with disabilities in Nasarawa state yesterday converged in Lafia, the state capital and staged a protest march against the plot by the Nasarawa state House of Assembly to impeach Governor Umaru Tanko Al makura on grounds of gross misconduct.

The protest, which took several hours, started as early as 7am around the emir of Lafia’s palace before proceeding to Government House to register their disapproval of the action taken by the assembly members.

The protesters, who were received by the Special Adviser to Governor Al makura on National Integration, Mr. David Nonso Ezedinma, said that Governor Al makura gave them a sense of belonging unprecedented since the creation of the state.

Mr. Ezedinma called on the protesters to remain calm, peaceful and law abiding saying the notice served on the governor would be addressed properly at the right time.

Enumerating the governor’s gestures extended to them, which they inscribed on their placards, include automatic employment for graduates living with disabilities, construction of three special schools, sponsorship of medical  treatment at national referral hospitals at home and abroad, disbursement of financial aid to women living with disabilities and special consideration on employment, among others.

Briefing the press at the rally, the state chairman of ‘Persons Living with Disabilities”,  Umar Dahiru, decried why the PDP members of the Nasarawa state House of Assembly are using their numerical strength to deny the state of the present transformation it is experiencing under Governor Al makura.
