A faction of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has disagreed with leader of another faction of the party, Rabui Musa Kwankwaso allegations that President Bola Tinubu led federal government is diverting resources of the country to the south to the disadvantage of the North.

The faction of the party urged Northern youths to disregard claims, calling the remarks false and inflammatory.

In a statement issued by the party’s National Secretary, Dr. Olaposi Ogini yesterday, the party described Kwankwaso’s allegations as baseless and aimed at causing unrest in an already fragile national climate.

Peoples Daily reports that Kwankwaso, who was NNPP’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, had accused the Tinubu administration of sidelining the North in terms of road infrastructure. However, the NNPP dismissed the accusation as a calculated attempt to incite division.

It reads..“The NNPP views with great concern the recent unprovoked outburst by Kwankwaso alleging marginalisation of the North under Tinubu’s administration,”

“It is sad that a former senator, ex-minister, and former governor would make such unsubstantiated claims that could trigger unrest.” the statement added

The party reiterated that Kwankwaso’s history of controversial and unverified statements contributed to his expulsion from the NNPP. According to the statement, his actions have resulted in numerous litigations and misrepresentations of the party’s stance.

“As we approach the 2027 general elections, we expect more political falsehoods from desperate politicians,” the statement added. “However, leaders must be held accountable for their words, especially when such statements threaten national unity.”

NNPP emphasized that contrary to Kwankwaso’s claims, available data indicates that the North currently benefits from more federal road projects than the South.

“The records are clear for any Nigerian to verify. Kwankwaso’s statement lacks factual basis and only raises questions about his true intentions,” the party noted.

The party called on Northern youths to independently review the government’s development projects and also scrutinize Kwankwaso’s performance during his time in public office, including his tenure as senator, minister, and governor.

It concluded by affirming that the Presidency and the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, had already refuted Kwankwaso’s claims, with Umahi stating that the North hosts the highest number of ongoing road projects in the country.
