The Borno State Governor, Prof. Umara Zulum, has expressed optimism that the darkest days of the Boko Haram insurgency are now behind the state, even as he acknowledged recent attacks on communities.

The governor shared his reflections during a meeting with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Shuaibu Waidi, at the Government House in Maiduguri.

His tone was both cautious and hopeful, acknowledging the pain of recent incidents while highlighting the significant progress made.

“Yes, we have witnessed a series of attacks on our communities and our security forces. But the worst is over. We will continue to collaborate and share intelligence with our security forces until we bring this madness to an end.”

Appealing to residents, the governor emphasized that lasting peace depends on more than just military might.

He urged them to remain vigilant and work closely with security agencies through timely information, community unity, and collective resilience.

Reflecting on the sacrifices of soldiers, Zulum described them as heroes who put their lives on the line daily.
