Christmas: Adamawa Govt. distributes 42 Trucks of rice to vulnerable residents

Ahead of the 2026 Christmas celebration, the Adamawa State Government has commenced the distribution of thousands bags of parboiled rice to less privileged and vulnerable households across 21 local government area in the state.
Flagging off the distribution on Tuesday in Yola, the Commissioner of local government Affairs, Hon. Ibrahim Mijinyawa yayaji explained that the 50kg bags of parboiled rice were procured by the 21 local government councils to support the residents.
Yayaji said that the distribution of the 42 trucks was aimed to ensure people are given sense of belonging by the Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s led administration whose mandate focus on carrying everyone alone and not living any sector untouched.
Yayaji added that each council will be receiving 2 trucks of 1,200 bags of 50kg of the rice for onward transmission to the rightful beneficiaries considering this year’s festive season with special emphasis to people at the grassroot.
He also described the initiative as a collective gesture of goodwill by the council chairmen aimed at cushioning the economic hardship faced by residents.
The commissioner commended the local government councils for the initiative and reaffirmed the commitment of the Fintiri-led administration to prioritising the welfare of the people, particularly the vulnerable, during critical periods.
Also speaking, the State Chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon. Suleiman Ahmed Gangkuba said the distribution aligns with the administration’s agenda of taking governance and relief directly to the grassroots.
He noted that the exercise demonstrates the resolve of local governments to complement state efforts in improving the living conditions of citizens.
Highlights of the flag-off included a tour of four designated distribution centres within the state capital by the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, accompanied by some council chairmen, to monitor the commencement of the exercise.
