The Controller of Corrections, Kano State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Ahmed Yusuf Lakpene, has concluded the First Quarter 2026 inspection tour of 13 custodial centres across the state.

The inspection, according to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSC Musbahu Lawan K, was aimed at assessing operational efficiency, strengthening security systems, and ensuring compliance with established custodial procedures.

During the tour, Lakpene conducted detailed assessments of critical operational areas, including inmate cells, kitchen facilities, ration stores, medical units, security infrastructure, and official documentation. The exercise also featured verification of inmates’ records and warrants to ensure adherence to due process and global best practices.

At the Satellite Custodial Centre in Sumaila Local Government Area, inmates presented the Controller with a handcrafted souvenir—a hand fan produced as part of vocational training programmes. Lakpene later presented the item to the Executive Chairman of Sumaila LGA, Hon. Faruk Abdu.

The Chairman commended the initiative, praising both the inmates and the Service for promoting rehabilitation and skill acquisition. He also pledged continued support to improve the welfare of inmates in the facility.

Lakpene, in his remarks, stressed the need for discipline, professionalism, and accountability among personnel, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to maintaining high standards in correctional service delivery.

He also interacted with inmates during the visits, urging them to take advantage of available rehabilitation programmes and adopt positive behavioural change to aid their reintegration into society.

The statement noted that the successful completion of the inspection highlights the Kano State Command’s commitment to enhancing institutional capacity, promoting humane custody, and ensuring effective correctional administration.
