Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, has alleged attempts by unnamed individuals to undermine planned direct primaries involving him.
Pantami, in a statement issued on Monday by Professor Suleiman Mohammed on behalf of the Pantami Movement, claimed that there were ongoing efforts to frustrate a transparent and credible primary election process.
According to the statement, those allegedly uncomfortable with free and fair direct primaries were planning sponsored petitions and media attacks ahead of the exercise.
“We anticipate sponsored petitions and press conferences from those who fear free, fair and credible direct primaries involving Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami,” the statement read.
The former minister further alleged that some individuals approached to carry out the purported plans rejected financial inducements and exposed the agenda.
“Some of those who were hired and offered financial inducement rejected the money and disclosed the agenda,” he stated.
Pantami also referenced a recent interview on TVC Communications, saying issues surrounding the matter had already been addressed during the programme.
“TVC interview of yesterday answered the relevant questions,” he added.
He, however, appealed to his supporters to remain calm and law-abiding despite the alleged political tension.
“Our supporters should always remain calm, peaceful and prayerful in all situations,” the statement said.
