Atiku Abubakar

By Jude Opara

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is actively consulting leaders and members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as part of preparations for a possible presidential run in 2027, according to his media aide, Paul Ibeh.
Ibeh disclosed this on Tuesday while responding to comments by human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong, who questioned whether Atiku was genuinely interested in another presidential contest.
In a post on X, Ibeh confirmed that the former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is seriously considering the race and is already engaging stakeholders within the ADC over the viability of his ambition.
According to him, Atiku would require broad national support if he eventually secures the ADC presidential ticket and hopes to challenge President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC ) in the next general election.
Ibeh also used the opportunity to criticise the current administration, arguing that Nigerians must unite politically to achieve what he described as national rebuilding ahead of 2027.
