Former entertainer and ex-lawmaker Uche Ogbuagu and three female aspirants have emerged as candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) for the 2027 House of Representatives election in Imo State.
The party’s primaries, conducted across the 27 local government areas of the state on May 17, produced several candidates for the various federal constituencies.
Among the successful female aspirants are Peace Adanna Nwadike for Nkwere/Nwangele/Njaba/Isu Federal Constituency and Olachi Ndidi Iheme for Owerri Federal Constituency, while Oleka Chinedu emerged for Ahiazu/Ezinihitte Federal Constituency.
Other candidates include Samuel Christian Onye for Okigwe/Onuimo/Isiala Mbano Federal Constituency, Ikenna Emeruem for Ehime Mbano/Ihitte Uboma/Obowo Federal Constituency, and Joseph Chukwuma Ikunna for Ohaji/Egbema/Oru West Federal Constituency.
Speaking on the outcome of the exercise, party spokesman Lancelot Obiaku said the emergence of three female candidates reflected the PDP’s commitment to its 35 per cent affirmative action policy aimed at encouraging women’s participation in politics.
He added that the party leadership under Chairman Austin Nwachukwu remains committed to inclusiveness and strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
The PDP also expressed confidence that the candidates possess the experience and capacity needed to secure victory for the party in the general election.
