2015: Reps minority leader calls for justice, fairness in party primaries

The governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Kano state, Suleiman Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila (APC Kano), has called on the leaders of the party to ensure justice and fairness in the party’s primaries a head of the 2015 general elections.

Kawu who is also the deputy minority leader of the House of Representatives made the call while addressing thousands of supporters at Rano town during the opening of his campaign office for Kano South Senatorial District.

He urged the leadership of the party, especially in Kano state, to ensure a level playing ground for all aspirants vying for positions on the platform of the party so that no one would feel been short-changed, for peace to reign.

He said his struggle as a politician is to ensure that more dividends of democracy get to the people of Kano state, adding that for democracy to be sustained, every politician must play according to the rules.

“This gathering has shown that the people of Kano South have spoken. We need your support to make life better for all our people. But I shouldn’t be misquoted like before. All we want is a level playing field for a good democratic process.

“Our leaders must ensure that democratic tenets are not only tenable in the party but are also followed to the letter. Our coming together to form the APC was for the sustenance of our democracy. We should therefore not allow our efforts to go in vain. We made a lot of sacrifice to see that APC is what is it today, and we’ll continue to work for the interest of the party and the people,” he said.

While calling on politicians to remove any form of fears in their minds and work for the people that elect them into offices, Kawu cautioned the electorates to be wise in their choice of leaders.

“It is only when you remain steadfast, prayerful and elects the right people that you will know the beauty of democracy. I believe in Allah and thank him for all that he has been doing in my life. I therefore call on you all to pray to Allah to make this our struggle a successful one,” he said.
