The ongoing leadership tussle within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) appears to have tilted further in favour of the camp loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, following a fresh update by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
A review of INEC’s official portal shows that the electoral body has replaced Ahmed Yayari and Daniel Woyengikuro as the party’s National Treasurer and National Financial Secretary, respectively, with Odeyemi Mackson Oladiran and Eyim Donatus Henry.
The latest changes effectively remove the last remaining national officers associated with the faction backed by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and former National Secretary Ibrahim Tsauri Turaki from the commission’s records.
Oladiran and Henry are widely regarded as allies of the Wike-led bloc, which had already secured recognition from INEC for key positions, including Abdulrahman Mohammed as National Chairman and Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary.
Prior to the update, Yayari and Woyengikuro were the only national officers on INEC’s portal linked to the rival faction. Their replacement means that all officials currently listed by the electoral commission now belong to the Wike-backed leadership structure.
The development is expected to intensify debate within the PDP over the legitimacy of its leadership arrangements as the opposition party continues to grapple with internal divisions ahead of future political contests.
