After six months in custody without trial has fixed 2nd July 2026, in a case between a Taraba-based journalist, Gabriel Olayinka who is standing trial before the Court over alleged criminal breach of trust, and Mr. Isa Jubri.

The Upper Area Court II, sitting in Jalingo, on Wednesday ordered an accelerated hearing for Olayinka, fixing July 2, 2026, as the date for definite hearing in his case of alleged criminal breach of trust.

Olayinka is standing trial over a complaint filed by Mr. Isa Jubri and has remained in prison custody since his arrest.

Prosecuting counsel, Barr. D.G. Tukura, told the court he needed three banks to produce statements of account and other documents, along with key witnesses.

But defence counsel, Barr. Longs Lugnan of P.D. Pius & Associates, pushed back, accusing the prosecution of repeatedly failing to present substantial witnesses.

“Justice delayed is justice denied. This matter has suffered prolonged delay while my client remains in prison. We pray for accelerated hearing,” he said .

The trial judge, Hon. Lawan Jika, agreed with the defence and set July 2 for definite hearing.

In a related development, the State High Court, Jalingo, mentioned Olayinka’s application for review of bail conditions.

Barr. Tukura sought more time to respond, citing technical challenges with his work device. The court adjourned the bail review to July 6, 2026.
