BREAKING: Jubilation Erupts in Kaduna as Uba Sani Rolls Out Free Fertiliser for 150,000 Farmers

Thousands of farmers, community leaders and agricultural stakeholders erupted in jubilation on Saturday as Governor Uba Sani flagged off the 2026 Wet Season Distribution of 500 truckloads of free fertilizer and simultaneously rolled out mechanization equipment in what is being described as one of the biggest agricultural interventions in Kaduna State’s history.

The flag-off ceremony, held at the iconic Murtala Square, Kaduna, drew a large crowd of beneficiaries and stakeholders who hailed the initiative as a major boost to food security, agricultural productivity and rural prosperity.

Speaking at the event, Governor Sani said the intervention would directly benefit 150,000 smallholder farmers across the 23 Local Government Areas of the state, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to transforming agriculture into a strategic driver of economic growth and wealth creation.

The governor disclosed that Kaduna State has dramatically increased investment in agriculture from just ₦1.48 billion in 2023 to over ₦100 billion in the 2026 Budget, representing approximately 11.65 percent of total state expenditure and surpassing the Malabo Declaration benchmark on agricultural funding.

According to him, the administration took a deliberate decision from inception to reposition agriculture from a seasonal government programme into a powerful engine of economic transformation capable of creating jobs, reducing poverty and guaranteeing food security.

Governor Sani revealed that over the last two farming seasons alone, the state government distributed more than 900 truckloads of fertilizer to farmers across Kaduna State, while over 69,000 farmers benefited from the Tallafin Noma (A Koma Gona) Programme.

He further disclosed that more than 100,000 farmers are currently covered under agricultural insurance schemes introduced by the administration to protect them against losses and improve resilience in the sector.

The governor attributed the growing confidence in farming activities to the significant improvement in security across the state, noting that thousands of farmers who previously abandoned their farmlands due to insecurity have now returned to cultivation.

He stressed that the restoration of peace in many rural communities has strengthened the administration’s conviction that security and agricultural prosperity remain inseparable pillars of sustainable development.

Governor Sani expressed delight at the overwhelming turnout and support witnessed at the flag-off ceremony, saying the commendation from farmers and stakeholders has further encouraged the government to deepen investments in agriculture.

He said the combination of free fertilizer distribution and mechanization support would help reduce production costs, expand cultivated land, improve yields and increase household incomes across farming communities.

Stakeholders at the event described the intervention as unprecedented, noting that the scale of support being provided by the Kaduna State Government has the potential to significantly increase food production and strengthen the state’s position as a leading agricultural hub in Nigeria.

The governor also expressed profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his continued support to Kaduna State, saying the partnership between the Federal and State Governments is accelerating development and improving the welfare of citizens.

“Our vision remains clear: to build a modern, resilient and globally competitive agricultural economy that guarantees food security, creates jobs, reduces poverty and delivers shared prosperity to all our people,” Governor Sani declared.

With 500 truckloads of fertilizer already set for distribution, mechanization equipment deployed to support farming activities and 150,000 farmers targeted as beneficiaries, Kaduna’s 2026 wet season farming campaign has commenced on a high note, reinforcing the state’s growing reputation as one of Nigeria’s foremost agricultural powerhouses.
