Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, on Wednesday commissioned the N2.2 billion Silame Bridge and a 14-kilometre rural road constructed by the Sokoto State Government.
The 14km road, which links Garin Magaji to Gittarana in Silame Local Government Area, is expected to improve transportation, agricultural activities and economic development in rural communities.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Sule praised Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, for his administration’s infrastructure development efforts and urged other governors to learn from the projects being executed in the state.
“Let me tell the people of Sokoto that you are very lucky to have him as your governor. All the work he has done is with humility, hard work and respect,” Sule said.
The Nasarawa governor noted that Sokoto and Nasarawa are predominantly agrarian states, stressing that investments in rural roads and bridges would have a direct impact on farmers and other residents.
“The President wants us to make sure we make an impact, especially in rural communities. Sokoto, just like Nasarawa, is an agrarian state. You have a lot of farmers here, and most of these farmers face difficulties,” he said.
Sule thanked Aliyu for the invitation and commended him for implementing projects that would improve the lives of residents.
He also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for encouraging states to undertake projects aimed at improving conditions in rural communities.
In his remarks, Aliyu said the completion of the bridge and road demonstrated his administration’s commitment to delivering infrastructure projects with direct benefits to residents.
“This road will undoubtedly ease traffic congestion, reduce travel time, enhance safety and promote commercial activities within the area and beyond,” Aliyu said.
“It will also contribute significantly to the socio-economic development of the surrounding communities and strengthen connectivity across the state.”
The governor commended the Sokoto State Ministry of Works, supervised by the Deputy Governor, as well as the contractor for completing the projects.
Aliyu also thanked residents and community leaders in Silame for their patience and cooperation during the construction period.
He urged benefiting communities and road users to take ownership of the infrastructure and protect it for present and future generations.
The governor also acknowledged Tinubu’s infrastructure and development agenda, saying it was aimed at improving the lives of Nigerians.
Dignitaries at the ceremony included officials of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Nasarawa and Sokoto states, members of the State Working Committee, senior government officials and the Chairman of Silame Local Government Council.
