Kano NDC Governorship Candidate Condemns Bandit Attacks in Four LGAs

The governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, has condemned recent bandit attacks in four local government areas of the state and called for urgent, coordinated security measures to protect vulnerable communities.

Gwarzo, in a statement issued on Tuesday by his spokesman, Ibrahim Shuaibu, expressed sympathy with victims and families affected by the attacks, particularly in Chiromawa, Garun Mallam Local Government Area; Beli in Rogo LGA; Bebeji; and communities in Gwarzo LGA.

He described the attacks as a serious threat to lives, livelihoods and economic activities, warning that residents should not be forced to abandon their homes, farms and businesses because of criminal activities.

The former deputy governor commiserated with families who lost loved ones and sympathised with those injured, displaced or otherwise affected.

Gwarzo called on security agencies to intensify intelligence gathering, surveillance and targeted operations in vulnerable communities, while strengthening rapid-response mechanisms whenever credible threats emerge.

He also urged the government to identify and close security gaps that could allow bandits, kidnappers and other criminal groups to establish operational bases in rural communities.

According to him, protecting lives and property remains a fundamental responsibility of government and should be treated as an urgent priority.

“Every life lost to banditry is a painful reminder of the urgent need to strengthen our security architecture. We must not allow our people to become prisoners in their own communities,” Gwarzo said.

“We mourn with the families who have lost loved ones and stand with everyone affected by these terrible attacks. The government must act decisively to protect lives, secure communities and restore confidence among our people.”

Gwarzo commended security personnel for their efforts in tackling criminal activities and urged them to sustain intelligence-led operations, particularly in communities considered vulnerable to attacks.

He also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to security agencies, noting that timely intelligence could help prevent attacks, rescue victims and facilitate the arrest and prosecution of perpetrators.

The NDC candidate prayed for the repose of those killed and the safe return of abducted residents, while encouraging affected communities to remain united and resilient.

He warned that persistent insecurity could undermine agricultural production, businesses and the wider economy, stressing that sustainable development could not thrive without peace and security.

Gwarzo said farmers, traders and other residents must be able to access their farms, businesses and communities without fear.
