The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has activated its structures across the country and commenced a nationwide mobilization campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the party’s National Convention in Abuja, the National Chairman, Professor Sadiq Gombe, said the move demonstrated the party’s resilience and determination to emerge as a major political force in the next elections.
Gombe said the SDP would field candidates for all elective positions in 2027, including the presidency, 109 Senate seats, 360 House of Representatives seats, 28 governorships and 1,015 State Assembly seats.
He stressed that the party was bigger than any individual and urged members to prioritize its collective interests.
According to him, the party has also commenced the training of its officials across the six geopolitical zones to strengthen its structures from polling units to the national level.
“We must engage Nigerians with humility, integrity and sincerity of purpose. We must mobilize our youth and women,” Gombe said.
The SDP chairman said the party was offering Nigerians an alternative based on security, productive employment, social justice and accountable governance.
He cited the recent unveiling of the party’s policy document by its presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, and running mate, Dr Usman Bugaje, as evidence of its preparedness for the 2027 contest.
Gombe urged members to uphold internal democracy and resolve disagreements through dialogue and the party’s constitutional processes.
He also called for the SDP to win a legislative majority, arguing that securing executive positions alone would not be enough to implement the party’s proposed policies.
“We cannot go to government houses without matching it with majority in the assemblies to translate our blueprint into results for Nigerians,” he said.
