Gov Kefas pays condolence visit to Bamanga Tukur’s family in Yola

Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, led a delegation of senior government officials and political leaders to Yola, Adamawa State, on Monday to condole with the family of late elder statesman and former Governor of the defunct Gongola State, Alhaji Bamanga Muhammad Tukur.

Describing the passing of the nonagenarian as a profound loss to Adamawa, Taraba, and the nation at large, Governor Kefas noted that Tukur’s decades of dedicated public service left an indelible footprint on Nigeria’s political, administrative, and economic history.

“Alhaji Bamanga Tukur was a bridge builder and a statesman whose legacy transcended the former Gongola territory.

“We share in this grief with the people of Adamawa,” Governor Kefas stated.

The governor offered prayers for the repose of the deceased’s soul, asking Almighty Allah to grant him Aljannatul Firdaus and give the bereaved family the fortitude to bear the loss.

Members of the Taraba State delegation included: Rt. Hon. John Kizito Bonzena, Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly Hon. Jethro Yakubu Zikengyu, Majority Leader, Taraba State House of Assembly Chief GT Kataps, Esq., Secretary to the State Government Dr. Hamidu Ahmed Kara, Head of Service Alhaji Abubakar Bawa, APC State Chairman Mr. Edward Bobzon, APC Organizing Secretary Hon. Kabiru Jalo and Hon. Habu Isa Ajiya.

The visit underscored the deep-rooted historical and political ties binding Taraba and Adamawa states, both carved out of the former Gongola State.

Alhaji Bamanga Tukur died on September 12, 2026, at the age of 90.

Throughout his distinguished career, he served as Governor of Gongola State, Minister of Industries, General Manager of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), and National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
