No fewer than six people were reportedly shot dead with many wounded in a fresh attack by unknown gunmen at Unguwan – Kwalla village, in Ibbi local government area of Taraba state.
The attack, according to Hausa service of the BBC monitored in Jos, which took place on Saturday evening, occurred between the villages of Unguwan-Kwalla and Dampar, all in Ibbi LGA of the state.
The Taraba state Police Command, through its spokesman, DSP Joseph Kwaji, confirmed the incident, but said that only one person was killed while many were wounded. He, however, said that the attack was waged by the suspected armed robbers.
The BBC reported that the attacked persons, who were on their back to Dampar town from a market place, were suddenly ambushed by the gunmen in Unguwar – Kwalla village.
Earlier on, an eyewitness, who claimed to have sighted the corpses from the attack, alleged that the killing was communal-related.
Recall that in recent time, communities of Ibbi and Wukari have been facing serious security challenges, whereby many have been killed with several others injured.
