Governor Ibrahim Shehu Shema of Katsina State has disclosed that his administration will not embark on the execution of large projects to avoid placing financial burden on the incoming administration in the state in 2015.
Shema who made the disclosure during an interactive session with newsmen, yesterday in Katsina, noted that the projects to be executed would be those that would be completed before the end of the administration’s tenure.
He said “like during our first term there is no project left by the former administration we took over from that was not completed. For any project started we make sure the funds are on ground and it has a time line. Each of our projects now has a completion timeline of either December or February next year”.
The Governor stated that his administration has within the last seven and a half years recorded remarkable achievements which he said include the development of infrastructure, the Katsina Orthopaedic hospital, the Katsina City Ring Road, the Songhai farming initiative among others.
Shema also disclosed that his administration has recorded a giant stride in the area of development of electricity through partnership with some foreign firms and providing fertile ground for direct foreign investment into the state economy.
The Governor therefore called on the people of the state to continue to pray for the state to have an able successor that would continue with the good works already started in the state, stating ” when late president ’Yar’adua was leaving the state there was this fear but we came in. He will surely bless us with another able successor’.
As the 2015 elections draws near, Shema admonished people of the state to make sure that the elections were conducted violence free as according to him God gives power to whomever He pleases.
” you should understand that no matter of struggle gives one power, no matter the level of blackmail will give you power. So we should put all our trust to God so that we can live peacefully and build a strong society” he said.
On the 54th independence anniversary, Shema argued that the country has made extensive progress in its 54 years of independence, citing development in the economy, telecommunications, education and many other sectors as part of achievements since independence.
