The Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) has named its forthcoming national tournament after the general commandant of the Nigeria Security and civil defence Corp (NSCDC) Dr. Ade Abolurin.

The president of the HFN Alhaji Dadua Yusuf, who disclosed this at Suka in Abuja the venue of just concluded International handball Federation (IHF) Level II Coaching Course academy, said NSCDC has contributed immensely to the development of handball in Nigeria.

“You might be aware they want to honour veteran weight lifter, Maryam Usman and 25 other NSCDC officers for winning medals for the country this year at Commonwealth.

“The 26 athletes were among the 351 sports men and women honoured by President Goodluck Jonathan.

“Most of it  athletes won medals at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland and African Senior Championships in Marrakesh, Morocco earlier in the year including Partille World Handball Youth Championships, in Sweden.

“In 2013, NSCDC has done a good job in 2013 in promoting sports in Nigeria, he deserved to be named after HFN tournament, “he said.

Speaking on the honour, NSCDC boss, Dr. Ade Abolurin commended HFN for naming a national competition after him and urged them to present it formerly to the corps for approval.“I want to thank them for seeing me worthy in such award; I want them to present it formerly for consideration, NSCDC would do everything possible to promote sports for the good image of the country,” he promised.

The International handball Federation (IHF) Level II Coaching Course was organised by the Mega Veteran Handball Association (MVHA) in collaboration with Commonwealth Handball Secretariat (CHS) 50 coaches and 30 referees took part in the one week event.
