A civil society organization has called for the removal of the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Alhaji Ahmadu Giade from office.
The group, under the aegis of the Coalition of Civil Society for Transparency in Governance, is making this move on the grounds that the NDLEA boss has been fraternizing with drug barons and corruptly enriching himself, accusing him also of exceeding the lawful limit allotted to his tenure of office.
Director of Media and Publicity of the coalition, Comrade Babatunde Bamidele, in a statement made available to reporters in Abuja yesterday, frowned at the brazen corruption and the sit-tight attitude of the NDLEA boss, knowing that his tenure of office has expired.
He tendered some documents and petitions written by sources both within and outside the anti-drug agency, to the President, the National Security Adviser (NSA) and others, allegedly implicating Giade in some shady deals with drug barons for personal aggrandizement.
He quoted a petitioner, Paul Audu, a lawyer and a staffer of the anti-drug body, who cited Giade’s fraternity with drug barons, after the NDLEA arrested a notorious drug baron, Akindele Ikumoluyi, popularly called Ile Eru1 in 2005, who was prosecuted and his assets subsequently tracked down.
This development, according to the petitioner did not go down well with the NDLEA boss.No NDLEA official could be reached for comments.
