FG promises to restore power supply in Borno

The Federal Government yesterday pledged to restore electricity supplyin Borno in then earest future.

Recall that electricity supply was cut in the state in June following a suspected insurgents attack on the PHCN national grid transmission line at Damboa headquarters, in Damboa local government area of the state.

But, the Minister of State for Power, Alh. Mohammed Wakil, who spoke at PDP stakeholders meeting in Maiduguri, promised that the supply will be restored in a very short while.

Wakillamented that the prolonged power outage had caused untold hardship on the common man, saying that the government was saddened by the development.

He pointed out that although the federal government had successfully reconnected the state to the national grid last month, before another insurgents attack on the line.

“We had successfully reconnected the state to the national grid last month after mobilizing a team of engineers to effect repairs on the damaged transmission line.

“It is sad that the power supply lasted for only about 24 hours before it was cut by vandals suspected insurgents’’, Wakil said. He said that the latest vandalization had led to major faults in three transmission points.

“I want to assure that the federal government and its agencies are working to restore power supply within the nearest possible time’’, Wakil said.

He said contact had already been made with security agencies who had agreed to expand security coverage along the transmission line, but declined to give details of the reconnection plan due to security considerations.

Wakil said that government was also working towards connecting the state through another power line coming from Damaturu to prevent future black out.
