Chairman, Abaji Area Council of the FCTl, Mr. Abubakar Umar Abdullahi, has disclosed plans to send a number of indigenous students to tertiary institutions abroad for studies.
Abdullahi made this disclosure when hosted the leadership of the Abuja Indigenous Students Association (AISA) that paid him a courtesy visit in his office.
He explained that the idea is aimed at closing the gap of educational backwardness of the indigenous population in the Federal Capital Territory.
He equally reiterated that the Council has taken this bold decision in its quest to end educational backwardness among the FCT indigenous people, and the Council in particular.
The Chairman, who expressed gratitude over the visit of the leadership of AISA, opined that education is one of the top priority of his administration which is expected to bring about lasting solution to educational backwardness among the FCT original inhabitants especailly those domiciled in Abaji.
He assured the AISA leadership that his administration will always give full support in the struggle to elevate the educational standard of the FCT natives; noting that education remains the key to liberate them from poverty.
The Chairman pledged to work assiduously towards improving the living standards of the Abuja aborigines.
Earlier in his remarks, the National President of AISA, Comrade Muhammad-Nasir Abaji, said the Chairman has provided the needed opportunity to the residents to realize their potentials.
In particular, he described the Chairman as a shining star, champion of education and true icon of development in the FCT, whose contributions have gone a long way to transforming the landscape of learning and opportunities for the teeming youths of the Council.
