Abba Moro blasts policians over comments

The Minister of Interior, Abba Moro has warned politicians to desist from utterances that can further worsen the security challenges presently facing the country.

Moro who dropped the warning while speaking at Ake’s Palace during courtesy call on the Alake and Paramount ruler of Egba land , Oba Adedotun Gbadebo said, “the most worrisome aspect of the challenges that we face today is the challenge of the untold activities of the politicians.

While government is taking deliberate steps to contain the situation of insurgency and insecurity, some activities and pronouncements of politicians, serving and not serving or retired,especially from politicians that have occupied very high offices in this land, is unsettling the polity of this country at the expense of the ordinary person”.

He said “Nigeria requires peace. Nigeria as a diverse country requires harmony. It is only in peace and harmony that development can take place. The attitude of the Nigerian politicians to do politics all the year round is having negative effect on the development of this country”.

“The world over, one of the tenets of democracy is that party politics takes place prior to election. After election, it is governance. And governance ordinarily is supposed to be for everybody irrespective of party affiliation. But today, our politicians have thrown decency to the dogs and make pronouncements that shake the very foundation of this country. This is not patriotism. This is not nationalism”, he said.

The minister who used the opportunity to subtly send the royal father to ex- President Obsanjo said, “We are gradually withdrawing from the core values of those things that bind us together as one unified

country. I make this appeal because as a royal father, you have the responsibility to call your children to order when they are derailing and deviating.

“I make this appeal believing that you will intervene, with your colleagues, very urgently to bring some level of order to politics in Nigeria, to governance in Nigeria”, he said.

He stated that “people should respect constituted authorities so that the government will be encouraged to do more for the people”.
