ADC vows sustained pressure on Tinubu as Melaye criticises governance, borrowing

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dino Melaye, has said the party will continue to mount pressure on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing his administration of failing to address key national challenges.
Melaye, a former senator representing Kogi West, made the remarks in Abuja during a press briefing organised by the National Forum of Legislators within the ADC.
He expressed concern over the security situation in the country, alleging that the Federal Government has not shown sufficient commitment to tackling the issue. According to him, the international community is closely monitoring developments in Nigeria.
The ADC stalwart also raised questions about the government’s borrowing pattern, drawing comparisons with the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
He argued that Nigeria’s debt profile has increased significantly despite the removal of fuel subsidies, and called on authorities to provide clarity on how the borrowed funds have been utilised.
Melaye further alleged irregularities in the award of a major infrastructure project, claiming it was executed without a competitive bidding process.
In addition, he criticised what he described as executive interference in judicial matters, warning against actions that could undermine the independence of the courts.
Reaffirming the opposition stance of the party, Melaye insisted that the ADC would continue to hold the government accountable, stating that sustained pressure remains necessary to ensure responsive governance.
