Over 40 persons have so far been murdered as armed invaders continue to attack Agatu local government area of Benue State.
The attacks started in November 2022 and has continued unabated. It has left thousands displaced who are now seeking refuge in neighboring Kogi State just as many are said to be missing.
In the latest attack on Wednesday night, at least 15 persons were said to have been murdered.
Confirming this to our correspondent in a text message, a member of the House of Assembly representing Agatu State Constituency Hon. Godwin Edoh said another village in Agatu North, Ugboju Omaga was attacked and 15 persons killed.
Said he: “No response from any quarter. Instead another village in Agatu North called Ugboju Omaga was attacked today where 15 people were reportedly killed
“Our cry to government and other security agencies for aid has fallen on deaf ears so we are are just left at the mercy of God. What have my people done to this government in the State and at the federal level. I totally condemn this attack on innocent people of Agatu by these armed men who are bent on taking over and occupying our ancestral home by force”, he lamented.
Another source who pleaded anonymity said the attackers rounded the village on Wednesday so there’s no way people could run out.
“They just left now and we are counting dead bodies right now”, he said.
