…Agency gives succour to over 500 flood victims in Jigawa

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has distributed some relief materials worth millions of naira to victims of the recent torrential rainfall which rendered hundreds of people homeless and destroyed properties in Jigawa state.

The benefiting communities in four affected local government areas of Jigawa state include Hadejia, Taura, Ringim and Birnin-Kudu.

North West Zonal Coordinator of NEMA, Alhaji Musa Ilallah, informed at a symbolic presentation of items that, over 500 victims benefited from the relief support consisting of 200 bags of maize, 200 bags of guinea corn, 300 bags of rice, 60 Jerry-cans each of palm and vegetable oil.

Other items presented, he said, were 600 bags of cement, 500 pieces of ceiling sheets, 300 bundles of roofing sheets, 200 bags of roofing nails, 200 packets of zinc nails, 200 pieces each of Shadda and wrapper.

In his remarks, the Executive Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency,(SEMA) in Jigawa state, Alhaji Ibrahim Aliyu Waziri, while receiving the items on behalf of the state and victims, commended NEMA, promising that the items would be distributed among the victims without any discrimination.

Aliyu, however, tasked residents on the need for them to clear the drainage system and relocate from flood-prone areas so as to prevent future re-occurrenceof flood disasters in the state.
