Amirul Hajj Raises Concern Over Pilgrims’ Feeding, Transportation, Health Services
Katsina State Amirul Hajj, Barrister Ahmad Usman El-Marzuq, has called for improvements in healthcare, feeding, and transportation services as well as toilet facilities at the Mina camp in Saudi Arabia for pilgrims from Nigeria.
A statement issued by Ahmed Abdulkadir, Media Representative, Katsina State Hajj Delegation 2026, said El-Marzuq raised the issues during an interactive session with officials of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) on Thursday, May 28, 2026.
The officials, led by the Commissioner in charge of Planning, Research, Transportation and Logistics, Professor Abubakar Abubakar Yagawal, engaged pilgrims and Hajj officials from Katsina State to receive feedback aimed at improving service delivery.
The Amirul Hajj said the visit was an opportunity for pilgrims and officials to share their observations and concerns on the 2026 Hajj operations, and highlighted the need to improve healthcare services, transportation arrangements, and toilet facilities at the Mina camps.
El-Marzuq also drew attention to complaints regarding feeding, noting that meals served pilgrims were sometimes inadequate and the quality poor.
Earlier, the Executive Director, Katsina State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Yunusa Abdullahi Dankama, encouraged pilgrims to freely express their views and concerns regarding the Hajj operation.
He highlighted the various welfare interventions by Katsina State Government under the leadership of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda to support pilgrims from the state.
According to him, the governor’s approval of a N3 billion loan enabled the Board to meet NAHCON’s payment deadline on behalf of intending pilgrims who had already made deposits for the 2026 Hajj exercise.
The intervention, he explained, helped secure the seats allocated to the state, after which the funds were recovered from the pilgrims and fully refunded to the state government.
Dankama said the governor also paid for the sacrificial animals and related Hadaya expenses of all Katsina pilgrims and a Sallah gift of 300 Saudi Riyals for each.
During the interactive session, pilgrims raised concerns about the Nusuk Card, observing that it does not clearly indicate the pilgrim’s state of origin or country, which are vital information that would make it easier to identify and assist pilgrims.
Supporting the suggestion, the Director of Operations, Katsina State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Dr. Nasir Ɗan-Zaria, said the Nusuk Cards should include such vital details for easy identification.
In his response, Professor Yagawal explained that the purpose of the visit was to obtain firsthand information on challenges being experienced by pilgrims and officials during the Hajj exercise.
He said some of the issues raised, particularly those relating to toilet facilities, did not fall directly under NAHCON’s responsibility, explaining that the Saudi authorities did not provide adequate space for hospital services.
The NAHCON official, however, assured that the Commission would forward the concerns of the pilgrims to the appropriate authorities for necessary action.
The Commissioner also requested that any additional complaints or observations not raised during the meeting should be submitted in writing for further consideration.
