The Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Mohammed Mahmood Abubakar has said the gap between the demand and supply of maize production with over 5 million metric tons has been closed due to the Anchor Borrowers’ programme initiated by the Federal government and implemented by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
He further buttressed that before the advent of the present administration led by President Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria was not self sufficient in maize production.
The Minister stated this on Thursday at the Unveiling of the 2nd National Maize Pyramid from 2021 wet Season Farming in Kaduna.
The Minister who was represented by the North West Zonal Director, Agriculture, Dr Timkat Vontav on the occasion noted that it is another consistent milestone in achieving one of the core objectives of the administration which is for Nigeria to be food and nutritional secured.
