A chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa state, Umar Duhu, has called for a mid term election to be held for the official of the party, as a measure to ascertain their popularity or otherwise among the party members.
Duhu who stated this at the weekend while speaking with journalists said this measure will help to strengthen the party after the tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari, to continue to win elections.
He lamented over the crisis bedeviling the party, especially at the national level and in some strategic states, saying it is time for President Muhammadu Buhari to provide leadership for the party by giving it direction.
While citing the case of Edo state where the national chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole is having a running battle with the Governor of the state, Duhu regretted that such incident is coming up under Oshiomhole, arguing that it is a clear knowledge that Governor of a state is the party leader in that state while the President is the national leader of a party in power.
He said that Oshiomhole cannot try what he is doing in Efo state in any other state, urging him to retrace his steps, as according to him, the party members will be forced to activate the section of the party’s constitution which recommends mid term elections for party elected officials.
Speaking on the chances of the party to remain united after President Buhari’s tenure, Duhu said the APC will outlive the President’s tenure, arguing that the structures of the party has remained stronger as APC has continued to win elections.
Speaking on the performance of the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Muhammed Bello, he said the minister has brought rule of law and transparency in the administration of the nations capital, adding that.
